
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Houses for Wayanad disaster victims in Kalpetta Township will be handed over through a draw. Minister O.R. Kelu announced that 178 houses will be handed over in the first phase. The beneficiary can choose their own house through a draw. The details of the draw were discussed at an all-party meeting held in Kalpetta. The minister said that the inauguration date will be decided in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister tomorrow. The team including Minister O.R. Kelu and T. Siddique MLA visited the township.
The minister also said that the financial assistance provided to the victims of the Wayanad Mundakai - Chooralmala disaster will continue. The government has ordered to extend the livelihood assistance provided to the victims of the Wayanad Mundakai disaster until they return to their homes. Two people in the family will be given Rs. 300 per day, or Rs. 9,000 per month. The order says that the financial assistance will continue until June or until the construction of the house is completed and the keys are handed over.
Till December, 1185 people from 656 families were given livelihood assistance of Rs. 9000 each. Three people will get assistance if there are bedridden patients in the family. The livelihood assistance was announced for three months as per the Disaster Management Act. However, it was extended till December at the demand of the disaster victims.
