
BENGALURU: The income tax department stepped forward with an explanation on the raid conducted at the office of Confident Group Chairman C J Roy. The officials of the income tax department have clarified that all the searches and procedures were legal and that no pressure was put on Roy and that he was not mentally harassed. They also explained that Roy's statement was recorded in the presence of another witness. However, the income tax department has not made any official response in this regard.
Meanwhile, Roy’s family alleged that the officials of the income tax department are behind Roy's suicide. Roy's brother C J Babu alleged that he committed suicide due to constant pressure from officials led by assistant commissioner Krishna Prasad. He said the officials constantly conducted raids and harassed him and that Roy did not have any business problems or loan arrears.
The Karnataka CID has been handed over the responsibility of investigating the matters related to Roy's death. The Karnataka government's action was following complaints from his family and the institution that there was severe mental pressure from the side of the officials. The CID has been directed to investigate the death of Roy, a prominent figure in the real estate sector, with utmost seriousness.
Roy committed suicide at around 3.15 pm yesterday at the corporate office of the Confident Group in Richmond Circle on Hosur Road in Bengaluru. The raid was conducted in connection with the fund raising of real estate ventures. The first raid was conducted by officials from Kerala on December 28.
A raid was conducted again and the office room was sealed on January 22. Three days ago, they returned and took steps to seize documents. In the meantime, Roy was questioned several times. It is reported that he had feared that he would be taken into custody when the inspection ended last evening. Roy, who went to his chamber to get the key to the sealed locker, took his gun and shot himself.
