Nothing happened at office to trigger suicide, says report; C J Roy’s public viewing underway

BENGALURU: Public viewing of the mortal remains of Confident Group chairman C J Roy, who died by suicide, is currently underway. The public viewing is being held at Nature's Cascade on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru. Roy's body was brought to the venue at around 9 am, and the public viewing will continue until 2 pm.

Following this, funeral prayers will be held at the nearby St. Joseph's Church. The burial ceremony will take place at 4 pm at the Cascade premises itself. Meanwhile, the Confident Group has announced that it will address the media at 4 pm on Tuesday to explain the circumstances surrounding Roy's death.

C J Roy died on Friday evening after shooting himself at the Confident Group office near Richmond Circle in Bengaluru, while a raid by central agencies was underway. Although he was rushed to the Narayana Hospital in HSR Layout immediately after the incident, his life could not be saved.

Investigating officers are also examining the possibility that Roy may have faced threats from other sources. The Karnataka government has entrusted the investigation to a special investigation team led by DIG Vamsi Krishna. The team includes a Joint Commissioner and two Superintendents of Police. Central intelligence agencies are also conducting a parallel probe.

According to an Income Tax Department report, nothing occurred at the office on the day of the raid that would have directly led to the suicide. However, Roy's brother C J Babu has alleged that Roy was under severe mental stress following the raid, and this may have pushed him to take the extreme step.
