Girl hacked to death by father in Manjeswaram; kin undergoing treatment dies

KASARGOD: A man who was undergoing treatment after hacked by his relative, who killed his 18-year-old daughter in an attack, has succumbed to his injuries. Mariyam Jumaila at Thuminad in Kunjathur near Manjeswaram was hacked to death with a lethal weapon. The Manjeswaram police later arrested Jumaila’s father, Ummer Farooq. Sheikh Abba (55), who was injured after attacked by Farooq and was undergoing treatment, has now succumbed to his injuries. Abba is Farooq’s brother-in-law. The attack was at Abba's house yesterday.

The incident happened last evening at 5:30 pm. Ummer and his family were staying in Abba's house. There were some disagreements between Farooq and his wife Thahira. As Farooq was addicted to drugs, Thahira was not in good terms with him. There was a property and gold transaction disputes between the two. Divorce proceedings were also underway.

Farooq came to the house to settle the matter and to return Thahira's gold. A fight then broke out between Farooq and Abba over property.


Meanwhile, Farooq attacked Abba with a weapon and when his daughter Jumaila tried to stop him from the act, she sustained hack injuries. The girl was admitted to the Mangaluru hospital with serious injuries on her neck and legs, but her life could not be saved.


Abba suffered leg injuries in the attack. He died while undergoing treatment in Mangaluru. The hospital authorities said the cause of death was heart attack. More charges have been imposed against Farooq in the incident.
