IMPHAL: The President's rule in Manipur, which has been going on for a year, is coming to an end. The Union Home Ministry has issued a notification withdrawing President's rule in the state. It is reported that the NDA government will again come to power in Manipur. The state BJP has announced that NDA leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister at 6 pm today. The BJP has also stated that preparations for the same have begun in the Lok Bhavan since this morning.

The swearing-in ceremony of Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh as the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur will take place today, 4th February 2026, at 6:00 PM at Lok Bhavan. Under his experienced and visionary leadership, Manipur is set to move forward on the path of peace, development, and good governance, ushering in a new era of stability and progress for the state," the state BJP leadership posted on X.

The NDA delegation led by Khemchand Singh had met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Lok Bhavan to seek permission to form a people's government. The delegation also included two MLAs from the Kuki-dominated districts of Churachandpur and Pherzawl. The 62-year-old Singh was elected as the leader of the BJP's legislature party at a meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday. Senior BJP MLA Thongam Biswajit Singh had earlier said that five MLAs, including him, will take oath as ministers.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh served as an MLA from the Singjamei constituency in 2017 and 2022. He was the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 2017 to 2022 and later served as a minister in the N. Biren Singh government. Biren Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Manipur on February 9, 2025, following persistent, intense ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities that began in May 2023. President's rule was imposed in the state on February 13, 2025. Although President's rule was imposed, the Assembly was not dissolved.
