Former MLA M Murali passes away, departed is Mavelikara's beloved leader

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Mavelikara MLA and senior Congress leader M Murali passed away. He was 73. He passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening for routine check-up. However, his health deteriorated by night and he died.


M Murali was a leader who represented Mavelikara constituency in the assembly for 20 consecutive years. His assembly tenure was from 1991 to 2011. He entered politics through KSU and had a great influence on student politics and among the youth. During Congress split, he stood with A K Antony. He had served as the KSU state president and the Youth Congress state general secretary.


Several Congress leaders and workers reached the hospital after hearing about his death. He is the son of late K P Madhavan Pillai of Mavelikara and V K Rajamma. He leaves behind his wife K S Ramadevi, a teacher in devaswom board college and children: Dr Mithun, Mridul and Mrinal.
