KOCHI: Police intervened heroically to thwart the suicide attempt of a jilted lover on the railway tracks of Kochi. A 25-year-old Perambra native working as an assistant manager at a private company in Qatar attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train on the railway tracks in Amballur.
The youngster was dating a girl from Kanjiramattom for years. However, the woman recently backed out of the relationship, leaving the man shattered. The young man had visited the girl's house three days ago. After the talks turned into an altercation, the family sought police intervention.
The police reached the spot, alleviated tensions and sent the person back to his hometown. On Friday, the youngster returned to the woman’s house, threw away the chocolate packet he carried and then left abruptly. However, the family members, feeling something fishy, immediately informed the Mulanthuruthy police.
Mulanthuruthy Special Branch ASI R Rajish called the youngster on the phone, but received a shocking response that he was walking on the railway tracks at Kanjiramattom with the intention to end his life.
Realising that the youth was on the Mulanthuruthy - Kanjiramattom railway line, Rajish immediately went there in his own vehicle. A police team also arrived in another vehicle. The police saw the person lying down, resting his head on the tracks where the green signal was on. Rajish then forcibly removed the youth from the track. Later, the youth was taken to the station and sent off with his family.
