NEW DELHI: Iran has finally given a green signal for Indian tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The permission was given after talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Iran had earlier warned that it would not allow a single drop of oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz if the US continued with the offensive. Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are India's largest oil suppliers. More than one million barrels of crude oil reach India through Hormuz every day.
The Thai cargo ship 'Mayuree Naree', which was en route to Kandla port in Gujarat via the Strait of Hormuz, was hit by an Iranian missile attack yesterday. The ship was coming from Khalifa Port in the UAE. The incident took place 12 nautical miles north of Oman. The Oman Navy rescued 20 crew members.
The Union Petroleum Ministry announced that two ships carrying natural gas, including from Russia, will arrive soon, and there is no need to panic over the shortage of cooking gas. The centre claims that domestic consumers will receive cylinders within two and a half days of booking. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum has informed in Kochi that there is a restriction on the supply of LPG.
