BHOPAL: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his pregnant wife with an axe for not preparing a spinach curry along with the meal. The incident took place on Friday in Jamarda village in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Sheela Bai, a mother of two. Police have arrested her husband Sunil in connection with the crime.
According to reports, Sunil had brought spinach home on Friday evening. However, since there were other dishes prepared, Sheela did not cook the spinach. When Sunil sat down to eat and did not find the spinach curry, he became enraged. He allegedly dragged Sheela outside the house and attacked her, striking her twice on the neck with an axe. She died on the spot. The incident occurred within the limits of the Chainpur police station. Sunil was arrested and later produced in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
The murder took place when Sunil’s mother and brother, who live with the couple, were not at home. After committing the crime, Sunil reportedly went to a relative’s house and informed them about what he had done. The relatives then alerted the police.
The couple had recently returned to their village after working as daily wage labourers in Maharashtra. They have two children aged three and five. After the incident, family members who reached the village attempted to attack the accused, leading to tensions in the area. Police were deployed to control the situation. The post-mortem and funeral were conducted under heavy security.
