
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two men have been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine, for sexually assaulting a Plus One student after intoxicating her by giving her alcohol. The first accused, Jishnu K Mohan (26), and the second accused, Vishnu R (Kannan, 29), both natives of Akkulam, were sentenced by Fast Track Special Court Judge Anju Meera Birla. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of them. The accused will have to undergo an additional two years of imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine. The court directed that the fine amount, along with compensation from the Legal Services Authority, should be given to the survivor.
The incident took place on July 4, 2024. The Plus One student had become friends with Jishnu, who is married, after meeting him at a temple. Taking advantage of this friendship, the accused invited the girl and two of her friends to Vishnu’s house. Once there, the accused forced the girls to consume alcohol. After that, Jishnu sexually assaulted the student. The other girls were in Vishnu’s room, and one of them was also assaulted by Vishnu. However, the other two girls later turned hostile and changed their statements against the prosecution. Based on the survivor’s testimony and other evidence, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced them.
On the day of the incident, when the girl returned home in the evening, her family noticed the smell of alcohol and signs of discomfort. Following this, they took her to the hospital, where it was revealed that she had been intoxicated and assaulted. It was also found that the accused had earlier attempted to invite minors to their house and give them alcohol.
The prosecution was represented by Special Public Prosecutor Adv. R S Vijay Mohan and Adv. Bindu V C. The case was investigated by Medical College Police Inspector P Harilal.
