BENGALURU: Two people died in a suicide attempt by four of a family following financial difficulties. The tragic incident happened at Mallenahalli near Bengaluru city. The dead have been identified as Asha (55) and her daughter Varshitha (34). Varshitha's brother Mohan Gowda (32) and Varshita's 11-year-old son Mayank are undergoing treatment at a private hospital with serious injuries.

Initial investigations revealed that Mohan Gowda slit the throats of his mother, sister and nephew and then attempted suicide by slitting his own throat. The family had sent a video to their relatives, explaining that it was severe financial crisis that led them to take the drastic step.

The relatives, who panicked after seeing the video, immediately reached the house, but the front door was locked from inside. When they entered the house through the back door, they saw all four people lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police and took the injured to the hospital.

Bengaluru police said the loss of Mohan Gowda's chit fund business prompted the family to commit suicide. Gowda was involved in chit fund businesses dealing in amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1 crore. He was also involved in chit schemes related to firecrackers during Diwali. Along with this, he was also leading a luxurious life, which led to mounting debts. The initial conclusion of the police is that the family decided to commit suicide together after they were unable to repay the debt. The police have started further investigation into the incident.
