KANNUR: A court has acquitted six SDPI workers in the murder case of CPM worker U K Salim from Usanmetta in Thalassery. The verdict was delivered by the Thalassery Additional District Sessions Court. Salim was murdered on July 23, 2008.

Salim’s father had earlier alleged that CPM was behind the murder. The family claimed that Salim was killed out of fear that he might reveal certain secrets related to the controversial Fazal murder case. They had also demanded a reinvestigation into the case. The verdict comes after years of legal proceedings.

Earlier, Salim’s family had approached the High Court seeking a CBI investigation. Later, the Crime Branch took over the case, and it was during this investigation that the SDPI workers were arrested.
