THRISSUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) alleged that a move is underway to distribute food kits in Thrissur to woo voters ahead of elections. The Election Flying Squad and the police seized 750 food kits from a pickle company in Thrissur's Kechery. The inspection was carried out following a tip-off. It is learnt that the company is owned by the brother of a BJP leader.

The CPM and CPI accused the BJP of distributing kits in the neighbourhood to influence voters. The LDF alleged mystery in so many kits kept in a private institution while the election code of conduct is in place, and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. The police, who took the kits into custody, have asked the institution owners to produce documents related to this.
