KASARGOD: A four-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was under treatment after a snake bit her while playing near her home, has died. The dead is Rithu Chandra, daughter of Sarath of Eleri in Kasargod and Ajitha. She died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur.

The child was bitten by the snake last Monday. Rithu was playing with other children near her house. In the meanwhile, her toy fell between the wooden planks nearby. While she was trying to retrieve the toy, a cobra hiding between the planks bit her.

She was immediately taken to the nearby primary health center, but there was no antivenom available there. The doctors then advised taking her to Pariyaram Medical College for better treatment. On the way to Pariyaram, she was given antivenom at a private hospital in Payyannur, but by the time she reached the medical college, her health condition was extremely critical.

She was shifted from the ICU to a ventilator due to the slow functioning of internal organs. Though the doctors tried their best to keep her alive on the ventilator for three days, she died today.
