THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided to demote DGP Jacob Thomas as ADGP. The public administration department has sent the direction on it to the office of the chief minister. Reports say the CMO has accepted it. The action was taken as part of a department level inquiry. As he is an IPS officer, the stand of the central government is crucial in it. As part of the proceedings, a clarification will be sought from Jacob Thomas one more time.

He had to face departmental probe for many things including the book written without the permission of the government. Thomas an IPS officer of 1985 batch is presently the managing director of Metal Industries Limited. He will be the first senior IPS officer to face such disciplinary action.

A probe conducted by former additional chief secretary Rajeev Sadanandan found serious lapses on his side.

Thomas was under suspension from 2017 for criticising the government related to Ockhi tragedy. He was appointed managing director of Metals Industries Limited last year. He was promoted to the post of DGP in 2015. His service will end in May 2020.
