THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: The vigilance seeks the government’s permission to probe into sand mining in Pamba – Thriveni. Earlier, the court had ordered to investigate the mining of flood accumulated sand from Pamba on the basis of a plaint filed by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala. Now, the vigilance has approached the government seeking the state government’s decision on the court order. As per the amendments made to the section 17 A of the Prevention of Corruption Act it is mandatory to take prior sanctions to conduct investigation, alleging the involvement of public servants and government officials.

After the amendment in the section 17 A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, this is the first case taken by the court, which comes under the law's domain. The opposition leader alleged that the there is a huge corruption behind the state government's consent in the mining of flood accumulated sand in 2018 from Triveni bank in Pamba.
