KOCHI: After denying the option to change schools for the students who secured merit quota for plus one admission, 43,258 seats are left vacant as supplementary allotment started in the state.
Merit seats left vacant:
Science: 21,541
Commerce: 12,648
Humanities: 9339
Supplementary allotment applications are being accepted from Saturday onwards. As most of the seats were filled after the first two allotments, the authorities said that a higher option can be availed after supplementary allotment. These many seats were left vacant after excluding students who couldn't secure admission even after getting an allotment, those who secured admissions to courses including VHSE, and students who applied in more than one district. Usually, supplementary allotments were carried out after giving the chance for school/subject change. This was altered this time.
The unnecessary haste despite knowing there would be vacant seats denied high option for candidates who secured the second allotment. There are students who had to join commerce or humanities due to the decrease in merit despite having an interest in science. They cannot change the course or school now. Only those who didn't get admission, didn't apply and those having mistakes in applications can apply for supplementary allotment.
