Unitac MD's statement: Khalid at the consulate was given dollars

KOCHI: Unitac MD Santosh Eapen told the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that he had obtained US dollars from the black market to pay a commission to Khalid, the head of the finance department at the UAE consulate, in return for the Life project contract.

The MoU was signed with the Consulate for the construction of 140 flats in Wadakancherry. Khalid demanded a 20 percent commission in US dollars. Four million US dollars were handed over to him. Sheshadri of Axis Bank's Karamana branch and Irshad of Axis Bank's Vyttila branch raised a fund of $ 1 lakh from the black market. The entire commission could not be paid in dollars. According to the statement, Rs 1 crore was handed over in Indian currency.
