KASARGOD: With assembly polls around the corner, the BJP leadership is searching for an appropriate candidate to secure Manjeshwaram assembly seat. The party leadership is giving priority to regional and linguistic factors to retrieve the seat which BJP lost for 89 votes in 2016 assembly polls. In party demand to select an independent & acceptable candidate is also there.
Majority in the party bats for fielding a person from Manjeswaram as candidate. The mandalam committee and panchayat committee of the party has discussed this issue in detail. Party workers have also put forward names of certain prominent leaders for candidature.
Party workers are demanding to field one among certain prominent BJP leaders in Manjeshwaram, namely—state committee member Advocate Balakrishna Shetty. Former Panchayat President Roopavani R Bhatt. BJP northern region vice president Sateesh Chandra Bhandari, district secretary Vijayakumar Rey and Advocate Naveen Raj. The party workers also state that since 1996, no person from Majeswaram was fielded for assembly polls.
In the last assembly by-polls, M C Kamaruddin defeated BJP’s Rajeev Tantri Kundar by 7,923 votes. Congress’s Rajmohan Unnithan received 11,113 votes in the Lok Sabha polls held in 2019. Regional leaders hold the opinion that as every vote counts if a person from the constituency is fielded as candidate, then the party can clinch victory.
