THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday reacted to reports which claimed that many are not happy with him taking over the Minority Welfare Department. While claiming that the decision to take over the department was welcomed by all, the CM added that he did not see any opposition against the decision. "I don't think that any group will be concerned with the Chief Minister handling a department. The decision has been generally welcomed by all," he said.
"It is not up to the Muslim League to decide who should handle the department. Everyone knows that the Muslim people have faith in me ... that they have faith in this government," he added.
The CM said that no one should be worried about the Chief Minister taking over the Minority Department and that he did not take over the department at the request of the Church leadership. "As part of a general consultation, it was decided that the department should be handled by the Chief Minister. It was suggested that it would be better for the Chief Minister himself to take over the department to look after the welfare of the minorities in the state," he added.
