KOZHIKODE: After a gap of two and a half years, a cargo ship arrived at Beypore port. 'Hope 7' with 42 containers from Kochi Vallarpadam terminal reached the shore at 6 am Thursday. The ship reached the sea at 3.30 am and approached the port with the help of Mitra Tug.
40 containers were unloaded using cranes. The ship will return to Azheekal today with the rest.
Plywood, tiles, sanitary ware and textiles were brought. With the resumption of container shipping service, the movement of goods in Malabar will be easier. Road congestion will be reduced. The level of pollution will also decrease. It also has the advantage of being able to deliver goods at lower rates. The decision is to run the service regularly if there is demand.
Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh L. Mandaviya flagged off the ship in Kochi on Wednesday. State Ports Minister Ahmed Devarkovil and Beypore's representative Public Works Minister PA Mohammad Riaz will attend the farewell function today.
Goods from here to Kochi were loaded yesterday.
