PALA: Relatives have lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister over the death of a pregnant woman while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Relatives have complained about the death of Mahima Mathew, a native of Kanjirapally, who was seven weeks pregnant.

Mahima had consulted a gynecologist at a private hospital in Pala. After receiving the doctor's advice, Mahima went to the primary health center in Marangattupilly to receive the Covid vaccine on August 6. On that very same day, she also underwent an examination to confirm that she was pregnant.

Later, it was confirmed that she was seven weeks pregnant. Mahima started experiencing serious health issues on August 11. Following this, she was taken to the same private hospital. However, it was another doctor who examined her. She was given medications for gas trouble and dolo injections.

On August 15, she was rushed to the same hospital after her condition worsened. Later, she became unconscious and died on Friday. Her death certificate indicated that the death may have been caused by Covid vaccination.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities said that Mahima was unconscious when she was brought to the hospital and that it was found on examination that she sustained a brain haemorrhage. They also said that she was immediately given specialist treatment. The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage. The relatives had also sent an e-mail to the health minister demanding the health department to intervene in the matter and find out the cause of death.
