THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was reported that 387 Malabar revolt leaders, including Variyamkunnath Kunjahammed Haji and Ali Muslyar will be removed from the list of martyrs of the freedom struggle. Now, BJP leader AP Abdullakutty has come up criticizing Kunjahammed Haji. Abdullakutty said that Variyamkunnan was the first Taliban leader in Kerala and that Talibanism would be repeated in the state.

'The erection of monument for Variyamkunnan and the proclamation that he was a martyr of the freedom struggle are the greatest cruelty to history. It was not a peasant struggle, it was a Hindu hunt. I would like to tell Tourism Minister Comrade Riyas, Pinarayi's son-in-law, who is going to erect a memorial to Variyamkunnan, to read the book 'A History of Indian Freedom Struggle' by EMS. EMS had pointed out that the 1921 revolt had turned into a Muslim riot. The family of EMS had to flee to Palakkad. Those who want to make the monument must understand this,' Abdullakutty said. Earlier, Abdullakutty had called Variyamkunnan a Taliban leader.
