Low pressure in Bay of Bengal: Heavy rain likely in state from Sunday, yellow alert declared

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in the state from Sunday due to formation of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. The low pressure area that forms in the Bay of Bengal by Saturday will intensify in 48 hours. As a result, heavy rains are expected across the state on Sunday and Monday.

Yellow alert was declared in Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Sunday and in Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Monday. Isolated heavy showers are likely in these districts. However, the IMD has said that fishing will not be restricted along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast.
