THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police verification is now mandatory for appointments in Devaswom Boards, co-operative societies, welfare fund boards, public sector undertakings, aided educational institutions and development authorities. The decision was taken at today's cabinet meeting.

Currently, police verification is only needed for those entering the government service. Verification must be completed within one month of entering the job. It is directed that institutions, including boards and corporations, amend the relevant rules within three months.

The Cabinet also decided to conduct a socio-economic survey through Kudumbasree to identify the economically backward sections of the forward class.
