NEW DELHI: Despite all developments in the country, hunger still exists in the country. The Global Hunger Index shows that hunger is on the rise in the country instead of declining over the years. According to a 2021 report by Irish Agency Concern Worldwide and the German organization Welt Hunger Hilfe, India is ranked 101 in the global index. It should be noted that India was ranked 94 last year. This time a list of 116 countries has been prepared.
In the Global Hunger Index, India's neighbours Nepal (76), Bangladesh (76), Myanmar (71) and Pakistan (92) have fared better than India. Meantime, Afghanistan, seized power by Taliban ranks 103. The index is based on malnutrition, child growth and infant mortality. Countries topped the list are China, Brazil and Kuwait. Climate change and epidemics have also been found to have affected food security around the world.
