THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Director Ranjith is likely to become the chairman of the Kerala Chalachithra Academy. The official announcement will be made soon. Ranjith said he would respond after the official announcement. Currently, director Kamal is the chairman of Chalachithra Academy. He was elected chairman in 2016.
Ranjith made his debut film writing in 1987 with 'Oru May Masa Pulari'. Later he became a part of films like Witness and Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal. In 1993, the film 'Devasuram' marked a turning point in his career. The movie and its character Mangalassery Neelakantan became a classic in Malayalam cinema. Subsequently, several hit films were penned by him, including Aaram Thampuran, Summer in Bethlehem, Narasimham and Valyettan.
In 2001, Ranjith made his directorial debut in the second part of Devasuram-Ravanaprabhu. He later directed several films including Black, Palerimanikyam, Pranchiyettan and the Saint and Indian Rupee. He has won several state and national awards. Ranjith has also proved his mettle as an actor.
