THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Liquor worth Rs 138 crore was sold in the state during Christmas through the outlets of the Beverages Corporation and Consumerfed. Liquor shops sold liquor worth Rs 65 crore on the 24th and Rs 53 crore on the 25th. Meanwhile, Consumerfed outlets sold liquor worth Rs 20 crore in 2 days. Liquor worth Rs 90 crore was sold to bars and others from warehouses. The outlet at Powerhouse Road in Thiruvananthapuram witnessed the highest sales- Rs 73.53 lakhs.
Chalakudy outlet, which was the leading liquor retailer, came second this time- Rs 70.72 lakhs. Iringalakuda outlet is in the third position with sales of Rs 63.60 lakh. Sales of premium liquor items increased significantly. Sales at self-service outlets have increased significantly. Demand for foreign-made foreign liquor has increased.
Consumerfed sold liquor worth Rs 11.5 crores on Christmas eve. Last year, it sold liquor worth Rs 11 crore. Kodungallur topped the list with sales of Rs 54.92 lakh. While the Banerjee Road outlet in Ernakulam sold liquor worth Rs 53.5 lakh, the Vyttila outlet sold liquor worth Rs 52.5 lakhs.
Consumerfed sold liquor worth Rs 8.5 crore on Christmas day. Last year it was Rs 8 crore. Njarakkal outlet in Ernakulam sold liquor worth Rs 39 lakhs and Kozhikode outlet sold liquor worth Rs 38 lakhs. Kunnamkulam outlet witnessed a sale of Rs 36 lakhs.
