KOCHI: The Kerala High Court ordered to hand over the treasury deposits of K R Gowri Amma to her niece Dr Beena Kumari. An order was issued to transfer Rs 34 lakh deposited in the treasuries of Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram. It was Beena Kumari, Gowri Amma’s sister’s daughter, who looked after the veteran leader at her last days.
No one was registered as a nominee for her deposits in the treasury. The single bench's order came on a plea filed by Beena Kumari, who said the authorities were not allowing her to withdraw the money. The court accepted her claim that she was fixed as the heir for the deposits in the will.
It has been registered in the will that she is the heir to the 19 cents of land in Alappuzha and deposits in treasuries of Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram. The court order was based on it.
Gowri Amma died at the age of 102 on May 11 in 2020.
