THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The budget presented by Finance Minister K N Balagopal includes welfare schemes not only for Malayalees but also for migrant labourers from other states. The Kerala Adithi mobile app has been launched for the purpose.

The migrant labourers working in Kerala have to acquire a registered special identification number through a web portal or a mobile application. Rs 30 lakh has been allotted for the Kerala Adithi mobile app project.

Currently, thousands of migrant labourers are working in Kerala. Most of them are employed in construction works. According to a recent study, the number of migrant labourers in Kerala is expected to reach one-sixth of its population by 2030. Many of the migrant labourers who had returned to their home states due to Covid, are now coming back as the circumstances are improving. With this, their numbers are increasing in the state.
