THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The budget presented here Friday has some new projects promoting the public distribution sector in Kerala. Finance Minister K N Balagopal announced that the budget proposes to introduce mobile ration shops in all 140 constituencies of the state. There are mobile ration shops presently in the tribal areas to ensure the availability of food grains and the government aims to expand this through the new scheme.
A total of Rs 2063.64 crore has been announced for the public distribution sector. The minister said things will be distributed through mobile ration shops in the densely populated areas of the scheduled castes and fishermen. The mobile ration shop is a scheme of collecting things from the nearby ration shops and delivering them at the designated centre. The arrival date of the vehicle in each area will be announced in advance. According to this, the people can come with proofs and buy grains.
