KOCHI: A plea was filed in the Delhi High Court on Saturday seeking the Central government's intervention to save Palakkad native nurse Nimisha Priya, who was awarded a death sentence by a Yemeni Court, in connection with the murder of a Yemeni citizen.

The plea was filed through Adv Subhash Chandran KR, by 'Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council'. It requested the High Court to direct the Centre to facilitate negotiations with the family of the victim on behalf of the nurse to save her life by paying blood money to the kin of Talal Abdo Mahdi, who was killed.

An appeal court in Sana'a on Monday upheld Nimisha Priya's death sentence.

On July 25, 2017, Nimisha Priya, a native of Kollengode iin Palakkad, killed Talal Abdo Mahdi and hid his body in a water tank at home. Nimisha Priya was running a clinic with Talal. Nimisha claims that Talal Abdo Mahdi, who promised to help her to start her own clinic, brutally tortured her after confiscating her passport. Nimisha said she kept their like a slave and this led to the murder.
