BEIJING: Covid-19 has resurfaced after a hiatus in China, the origin of the pandemic. Last day, the country recorded the highest daily increase in two years. 3400 cases were reported in China, on Sunday, which is more than double the cases recorded in the previous days. The authorities have imposed stringent restrictions following the sharp rise in cases. Lockdowns were declared in hotspots.
Schools have been closed in Shanghai on account of the escalating cases. The borders of north-eastern cities have been sealed. Currently, Omicron and Delta variants are spreading in the country.
Yanchi, an urban area that shares border with North Korea, was completely closed. China is following a zero-Covid policy to oust the pandemic. Lockdowns and group testing are all part of this policy.
China aims to control the Covid spread by imposing lockdowns and travel restrictions. At this stage, the efficacy of the Covid vaccines developed by China is also getting questioned. There have also been reports of Leukemia (blood cancer) being detected in people who took Chinese Covid vaccines.
