LOS ANGELES: Hollywood actor Will Smith is likely to go to jail for beating Oscar award night anchor and comedian Chris Rock for making fun of his wife in public. As per US law, Will Smith may be sentenced to a jail term of up to six months and a $100,000 fine (approximately Rs 76 lakhs).

Meanwhile, Chris Rock has not yet filed a complaint against Will Smith. LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) officials who were present at the Oscars had spoken to Chris Rock about filing a complaint shortly after the award ceremony. However, Rock was not ready to file a complaint. Police can take action against Will Smith only if Chris Rock lodges a complaint. Chris Rock will have six months' time to file a complaint against Will Smith.

Will Smith had slapped host Chris Rock for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith during the award night. As Chris made a joke about Jada, Will went on to the stage and hit him on the face.
