CHANDIGARH: A goods train was derailed in Punjab as it hit a herd of stray cattle on the railway track. The accident took place at Pathankot-Amritsar railway lane near Rupnagar by Sunday night. 16 wagons of the train got derailed in the accident.
The train met with the accident on its way back from Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant in Ropar, after unloading coal in the plant. There were a total of 56 wagons in the train. Four electric poles were destroyed in the accident. The railway transport through the area will be restored by Monday evening, said the authorities.

As per information, the train got derailed due to the sudden braking by the driver after a herd of cattle came on the railway track. Even though brake was applied, the cattle was hit. Following the incident, eight trains, including four express ones, were cancelled on Monday.
