LUCKNOW: A total of 12,000 couples from across 60 districts in Uttar Pradesh got married on Friday under the Chief Minister’s ‘Samuhik Vivah Scheme’.

The scheme aims to help people from poor families to get married. The government will bear the complete cost of the wedding. As per the scheme, the families of the grooms are welcomed at the venue by ministers and government officers.

Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun was present to bless the newly-wed couples at the event, which was held at Mohan Road in Lucknow, said the spokesperson. The scheme was launched in 2017. Those who wish to participate in the ceremonies should file online applications. Another mass wedding has been scheduled for June 17. About 6,000-7,000 couples are expected to tie the knot that day, said Asim Arun.
