Aster Medcity join hands with ‘Soukhyam’ project for cancer treatment

KOCHI: As part of creating awareness about cancer diseases and providing quality treatment at minimal cost, Aster Medcity will be joining hands with the ‘Soukhyam’ project being implemented by Hibi Eden, MP in Ernakulam parliament constituency.

The new project is being undertaken as part of Aster Hospitals successfully completed 200 bone marrow transplants. Highly qualified doctors service will be ensured through this project.

The project ‘Aster Care Together’ will be implemented throughout the state to ensure quality treatment to the society. Chemotherapy units will be established at regional hospitals or other institutions in other districts, where Aster hospitals have no presence. Service of expert doctors will also be made available here.

Hibi Eden MP, expressed his gratitude in associating with Aster Medcity for providing quality cancer treatment for the financially weaker sections too. ‘Aster Care Together’ project will be implemented in the Ernakulam parliament constituency as part of the ‘Soukhyam’ project, Hibi Eden said.

Regional director Aster Hospitals Kerala and Oman, Farhan Yasin said that Aster has decided to undertake this project to ensure cancer patients who cannot afford huge treatment cost should not suffer any more.

Diagnosis and providing treatment at the earliest are the most important steps in cancer treatment. There are several instances that patients were not able to get proper treatment at the right time due to their financial situation. This project aims at helping those patients to get the most advanced treatment, Farhan Yasin said.

‘Aster Care Together’ project is being implemented to uphold the principles of Aster Medicity to ensure most modern treatment is provided to the patients along with the financially weaker sections are not denied treatment, said Dr Jem Kalathil, senior consultant Onco Surgery, Aster Medcity.

Around 8.7 lakh people are falling prey to the cancer disease in the country and 25,000 are from Kerala. Diagnosis, expert treatment and its continuation are very important and several deaths were reported due to the late diagnosis of the disease, Dr Jem Kalathil said.

Cancer patients who approach with proper documents of their disease and financial background will be provided financial assistance in Aster Hospitals. Bone marrow transplant will also have the special rates.

The project will be led by Aster Medcity Kochi, Aster MIMS Kozhikode, Aster MIMS Kottakkal and Aster MIMS Kannur.
