THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan came down heavily on the defeat of Shanimol Usman, the UDF candidate of Alappuzha. His controversial response was that ‘What can be done if our own people decides not to win’. He said this during an interview with Kerala Kaumudi following his win from Kasargod Lok Sabha seat. His controversial statement was in reply to the question on the defeat faced in earlier polls.
"I was first given Thalassery then when Kollam asked gave Kundara. The party did not have any influence in these constituencies and it was difficult to win. I was sad, but fought for it. Kodiyeri was brought down by 10,000 when more than a majority of 40,000 would be obtained in Thalassery. What can be done when our own people decided not to win when my victory was assured in Kundara? The reason for the defeat of Shanimol Usman should be found, the same reason could be obtained," he said.
