WASHINGTON: A mass shooting in the US has left six people dead. The incident took place during an Independence Day parade near the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois on Monday.
At least 36 people have sustained injuries in the attack, said the police. The accused has been identified as 22-year-old Robert E Crimo III. He was nabbed within hours of the shooting. The assailant had perched on a rooftop and opened fire upon the parade.
As part of the 246th Independence Day celebrations, around hundreds of people had gathered in Highland Park. The assailant fired shots continuously for about 10 minutes. Following which, the crowd ran helter-skelter, tripping over one another.
