Woman dies during delivery in Kollam, family alleges negligence, protests staged

KOLLAM: Widespread protests are being staged following the death of a woman during delivery at the cooperative hospital in Ashtamudi. The family alleged medical negligence as the cause of death. Harsha, wife of Vipin of Mylakad, died on Monday at the Ashtamudi Cooperative Hospital, during delivery.

Her condition was bad before the delivery. The baby was taken out through a Caesarean. She died while she was being shifted to another private hospital in the district after her condition turned bad. It has been alleged that her relatives were not informed about her condition turning worse.

Her baby is under treatment at a private hospital in Kollam. When allegations were levelled, the congress activists staged a protest march at the Ashtamudi Cooperative Hospital. However, the hospital authorities explained that she died of heart attack.
