DUBAI: Several parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were hit by heavy rainfall as roads and vehicles were submerged in water. According to meteorologists, this month has seen the highest rainfall in the last 30 years. Officials said that between July 23 and 28, 870 people were rescued and 3,897 people were evacuated from floods in various parts of the country, including Sharjah, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. The UAE Ministry of Interior has announced that six expatriates of Asian origin have died in the flood.

The UAE Meteorological Center has issued a red alert as the rain will continue for the next few days. In Fujairah, which was the worst hit by the rains, many people have moved to hotels and other places as roads and houses were flooded. Fujairah administration said not to charge extra room rent from such people. From 10.30 pm on Monday to 9.18 am on Thursday, 234.9 mm of rain was received in Fujairah Port- the highest rate in the country.

Bus services from Fujairah to Dubai were also suspended. More than 50 buses and more than 100 volunteers are ready to evacuate people. Meanwhile, the intensity of rainfall is less in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
