Banasura Sagar dam shutters opened; One spillway shutter raised by 10 cm

KALPETTA: The shutters of Banasura Sagar dam in Wayanad was opened on Monday. One spillway shutter has been raised by 10 cm. Around 8.50 cubic metres of water is released per second. Currently, the water level in the dam is stable at 773.60 metres.

The maximum storage capacity of the dam is 775.600 metres. A red alert was announced at the dam on Sunday afternoon as the water level reached 773.50 metres. The water level had reached the upper rule curve of 774 metres by around Sunday night. Residents living on the banks should remain vigilant, warned the authorities.

Water level rises in Mullaperiyar

The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has gone up to 138.95 feet. More water will be released from the dam. All the 10 spillway shutters will be raised by 60 cm.
