Three years of imprisonment if construction waste is dumped in water bodies

kk

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The guidelines have been issued by the Local Government Department to impose imprisonment up to three years or a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh for dumping building construction waste in a water body. If the waste is not removed within seven days after the demolition of the building, a fine of Rs.5000 per ton will be imposed. The fine is Rs 10,000 for mixing construction waste with other waste and Rs 20,000 for depositing it in public places.

Plants will be set up for building waste management. Multiple districts will have one unit. Garbage will be collected in every local body. For this, there will be mobile units and collection centers to deliver the waste to the building owner. A collection point will be set up within five kilometers. The district level committee will fix the collection fee and processing fee. The Collector will be the Chairman and the District Coordinator of the Suchitwa Mission will be the Convener. The committee will determine how many plants are required and its capacity.
