kk

KOCHI: The High court has instructed the ED to explain why they sought personal information in the summons given to former minister Dr Thomas Issac in Masala Bond related to KIIFB. Justice V G Arun's bench sought an explanation in the plea filed by Thomas Issac to quash the summons of ED. The ED replied that Thomas Isaac is not the accused and they need time for explanation. The plea was then adjourned to August 17. Central government advocate Jaishankar V who appeared for ED said that no further action will be taken till then.

Thomas Isaac was summoned twice to appear at the ED's Kochi office along with the documents of bank transactions done by him and family members inside and outside the country. The High Court asked how details not sought in the first summons is being sought now and also stated to respect the privacy of individuals.

On behalf of Thomas Isaac, Supreme Court lawyer Siddharth Dave alleged that the ED issued the summons without even specifying the crime
