THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police commissioner has withdrawn the suspension of police officials over the deviation in the route of Minister of Industries P Rajeev’s official vehicle. The suspension of sub inspector S S Saburajan and senior civil police officer N G Sunil, who escorted minister’s vehicle, has been revoked. Widespread protests were launched following the suspension of the officials.

The policemen in vehicle number 11 of the control room were assigned from Pallichal area to pilot the minister, who went to Ernakulam from Neyyattinkara. Generally, the escort is provided to Vetturoad via Karamana - Killipalam - Attakulangara - Enchakkal. However, following traffic jam and potholes on Attakulangara bypass road, the pilot vehicle reached Chaka Bypass via underpass via Karamana – Kalpalayam – Kunchalummoodu – Poojapura –Jagathy, as per instructions from the control room. In the suspension order, it was mentioned that the change from the usual route had caused difficulty for the minister.

Meantime, the minister’s office had explained that the minister did not demand any action against the policemen. The action was taken against the officials following the complaint lodged by the minister’s gunman. It was the gunman who had called an ADGP and the control room. Meanwhile, Saburajan had won the chief minister’s police medal. The medal was awarded to 261 police officials in the state.
