3273 connections disconnected by Water Authority due to outstanding dues

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of a special mission to collect outstanding dues, the Water Authority, which is facing severe financial crisis, has started disconnecting the connections of long-standing domestic and non-domestic customers.

Out of the dues, 70% are non-domestic customers and 30% are domestic customers.In the months of June and July, 3273 connections were disconnected in the state. 1263 services were disconnected in the capital district. Usually household connections were not affected, but now 100 services have been disconnected.

The Water Authority is supposed to get Rs 1878 crore from the non-domestic category as dues. Rs 348.69 crore is due from government institutions and Rs 964.84 crore from local bodies. Semi-government and public sector institutions have an outstanding dues of Rs 12.94 crore and Rs 8 crore from the industrial sector. Rs 216 crore is due in the household category.
