Water bill must be paid within 15 days; late payment will incur interest in addition to fine

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Water Authority has reduced the time of payment of the water bill, without a fine. Now the bill must be paid within 15 days of receipt. If the bill is not paid on time, then interest will be also charged in addition to the fine.

Currently, the time to pay the water bill was 30 days and there was no interest. If the payment is after 15 days a 1% interest is charged in addition to the fine amount.

After 30 days household consumers will incur 1.5% and non-household users will attract 2% interest. In the new order, it says that the interest rate must not be less than the fine amount. If the bill, including the fine, is not paid in 15 days, the water connection will be canceled.
