NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court, on Friday, partially upheld the 2018 Kerala High Court verdict in the EPF pension case. A bench headed by the Chief Justice announced the verdict which provides partial relief to the employees. The court also held the condition in the scheme that the employees are required to make a further contribution at the rate of 1.16 percent on the salary exceeding Rs.15,000 as invalid. The court granted six months time to the government to generate funds for the pension share. The pension will be calculated on the average of the last five years of salary.
The Court's judgments came in the appeals filed by the EPFO and the Union Government challenging the Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi High Court judgments which had quashed the Employee's Pension (Amendment) Scheme, 2014.
