ISTANBUL: Six people were killed in an explosion in Central Istanbul. It is reported that 38 people were injured in the explosion in the famous Istiklal Avenue in Turkey. The blast occurred around 4 am local time on the busy tourist spot Istiklal street.
A video posted online showed the flames erupting and a loud bang on the street filled with tourists and locals as there are many shops and restaurants. The reason behind the blast is yet to be revealed. It is suspected to be a suicide bombing. Local media have reported visuals of the injured being evacuated from the blast site. The Turkish channels were banned from broadcasting for an hour due to the attack. Istiklal street is an area where the Islamic State group carried out a similar series of blasts between 2015 and 2016.
