Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth, who portrayed the character ‘Thor’ in Marvel Series, said that he is taking a break from acting for health reasons. He revealed this during an interview with Vanity Fair.
Chris Hemsworth said that he has a higher probability to get Alzheimer’s disease. During a routine check up it was found that the actor had the genes which could lead to Alzheimer’s. He is currently working on Disney Plus’ new docuseries.
In the checkup it was found that he has two genes that are believed to cause the disease. However, it is only a probability that it would manifest. Alzheimer’s affects one in every thousand people. The actor said that he doesn’t want to use this for sympathy or to be more dramatic. He added that it does not mean that he has resigned from life.
The Thor actor said that his grandfather also suffered from Alzheimer’s and so this news is not surprising. The fact that he might get Alzheimer’s has made him more aware of the reality of death. Though this is not a predetermined gene, it points strongly to a possibility of being affected by Alzheimer’s.
Chris said that he wanted to take some time off from movies. Right now, he is completing the projects he had committed earlier. After that he wishes to return to his family and spend time with his wife and children.
Hemsworth was seen last in National Geographic’s six episode series ‘Limitless’. The 39-year-old actor first appeared in the television program ‘Home and Away’ where he portrayed the role of ‘Kim Hyde’.
He shot to stardom after being cast as the God of Thunder, ‘Thor’. He is married to actress Elsa Pathaky and have three children.
